Non-Geographic Code

An area code not tied to a place — toll-free, premium, personal-communications or special-service codes like 500, 710 or 900.
A non-geographic NPA is an area code that does not correspond to a geographic region. Examples include toll-free codes (800, 888…), premium 900, personal communications 500, and codes assigned to special services (such as 710 for US Government use). These codes are administered outside the geographic CO-code assignment system.
Because they have no location, non-geographic codes carry no rate center, state or province, and prefix-level utilization concepts apply differently or not at all.
A non-geographic code has no state or city. Treating a 500/710/900 number as if it maps to a place is a category error.
